Campaign Story

My name is Rachel & my husband is Joe. Some of you might know us, some might not. After several years apart, we were finally married last year, shortly after which my father passed away. My hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2+ years now with no luck. After some initial testing, it turns out that I have PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, which makes conceiving on our own extremely difficult. I’ve already tried 10 rounds of hormone treatments to try and conceive but it hasn’t worked. My age also doesn’t help. I’m 41 and time is against us. The next steps for our fertility treatments, tests and hormone medications will cost more than we can afford as newly weds. The clinic we’re working with says that hormone enhanced IUI (intrauterine insemination) is the next step, pending test results.

I’m asking you to help us on this new path by donating to our fundraiser. We are hoping for assistance with the financial burden of IUI and fertility medications. Even $5 can help us on our way to having our dream of a family. It would mean the world to us.  Joe is a disabled veteran do our resources are very limited. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Met with Fertility Specialist

Thank you to everyone who donated so far. Today we were able to meet with the fertility specialist. She was very thorough and we really like her. She has suggested tests and a procedure, as well as a new medications for our next step. We will be getting these done as finances allow. Thanks again anyone who has helped so far. Thanks to you we have been able to start the journey towards baby Turner.

    It's all in the genes

    Hey all,
So it turns out that we need to have genetics testing done before the specialist will give us increased hormone meds. This testing is $250 per parent. Right now we\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re about $100 shy for my test. If my test is clear we won\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t need one for Joe. Please consider helping us to reach our next mini goal so we can get started on this next step.
    Thanks 😊

    Good news/Bad news

So, today I went for bloodwork results & a test called FemVue to take a look at my tubes. Good news is my eggs are plentiful & of good quality for my age. Most of my hormones are OK but not I\'ll still need assistance regulating them each cycle. Bad news is, my tubes are blocked. The good doctor gave me 3 options for next steps.
    1. I have another HSG test to verify that the tubes are blocked. Depending on the type of blockage, the test may help open them or it may not. If it\'s a mucus or fluid blockage, it could free up with the HSG. If it\'s due to scarring or endometriosis, I\'d need surgery to fix it.
    2. Have a tubal \"reversal\" surgery, done via endoscopy. This will bypass the blockage. I could then try IUI, a less invasive & less expensive fertility assistance technique than IVF.
    3. Jump right to IVF. The most invasive & expensive, but effective, treatment.

Joe (Mal, to our online friends) & I have talked and we\'re going to do the HSG test before moving onto surgery or IVF. It seems the most reasonable to us. Now it\'s just a matter of deciding when we can do this next test on our journey towards parenthood. As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
